Yanina Manolova's short film documents several Appalachian women fighting to overcome a cycle of substance—and physical—abuse. The cliché that bad things happen to those who make bad choices is a load of bunk, as proved here, because those who make bad decisions often don't have choices at all.
The pictures, interviews, and production of the film all relay a very dedicated effort from Manolova. And that's what I think will be our industry's saving grace, talented photographers telling stories they care about, because they need to.
